A brand guardian supports a brand in more ways than one. It’s all about protecting your brand and effectively communicating your brand message throughout all of your materials, maintaining consistency and brand integrity throughout.
Every interaction that your customer has with you should speak the same language. Maintaining this balance across multiple channels is where my skills as a brand guardian shine through.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in the details. I like to analyse the little parts that contribute towards the whole, and how each and every element supports one another. It’s always been how my brain sees things, and I love to understand the process of exactly why things are the way they are. It’s what makes me good at what I do.
My first ever paid graphic design gig actually came off the back of a project I did in high school and it set my mind on a path of how I could make a career in design. I went on to study graphic design at college and then visual communication at university, and since then I’ve always been working and studying in this field.
When 2020 rolled around, I took the opportunity to further my studies and I completed two diplomas in UI and UX design to expand my knowledge even further. It’s a field I had been passionate about for a long time and something I’d always wanted to learn more about. These courses helped me to understand the vital importance of brand experience and customer journey.
Since graduating, I’ve held 3 long term positions over a total of 10 years in the world of graphic design, and each one of these jobs helped me shape into the designer that I am today.
My first ever job was with a small company where I had responsibilities in more areas that just graphic design. It taught me skills beyond the screen and how design can translate into print and further afield.
Agency life showed me fast moving projects, a huge variety of clients and a never ending scope for creativity. My experience taught me that what I was really passionate about was the client aspect and getting involved in the management of their brand. I relished the opportunity to look at the bigger picture and see how we can improve each little piece to create a strong and consistent brand.
My time in a more corporate position taught me how other departments and processes need to work alongside one another to develop a strong brand, and how this can be managed effectively.
